Nurses - The Heartbeat of All Children's Hospital

Nurses - The Heartbeat of All Children's Hospital

Nancy Cross Hamilton's heart is with All Children's. Her love of nursing and teaching–especially for children–are a true passion and calling. It's for these reasons that she became an All Children's Dream Builder. Dream Builders are caring individuals who have remembered All Children's in their long-range financial planning. Dream Builders gifts can be irrevocable or revocable. All of these gifts have the same intent and result in creating healthy tomorrows and ensuring bright futures for tomorrow's children.

Nancy received both a BSN and a Master's Degree in Nursing with a Pediatric Clinical Specialty at the University of Florida in the 1960s. She went on to teach pediatric theory and clinical instruction to nursing students at St. Petersburg College. Beginning in the 1970s, this included nursing students based at All Children's Hospital. "I've watched All Children's Hospital grow and change," Nancy reflects. "And I' m so proud of the hospital and its employees, especially the nurses. I have observed the quality of care, teaching, mentoring, research, and most importantly, the emphasis upon Child and Family focused care. I am so grateful to the nursing staff for the leadership, dedication, compassion and caring which they demonstrate at All Children's Hospital. I will be forever grateful to each of the nurses who have unselfishly mentored a myriad of nursing students to become leaders in their own right."

Nancy's connection to All Children's extends beyond her experience with nursing students. Her daughter and two granddaughters have all been cared for at All Children's over the years. Nancy is a founding member of the All Children's Hospital Guild Seminole Largo Branch, which raises funds and awareness for All Children's. Nancy is currently serving as a member of the ACH Hospital Wide Quality Improvement Committee and on the All Children's Hospital Board of Trustees.

Nancy also chose to make a difference for tomorrow's children through her estate plans. In 1993 she and her mother-in-law established the Mrs. Irwin Cross and Mrs. Henry Irwin Cross Charitable Remainder Trust in memory of her husband and father-in-law, respectively. A charitable remainder unitrust is a trust that pays income based on a percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. The payment may be made annually for Nancy's life or for a specified number of years. The non-charitable interest income is followed by a charitable remainder interest by which a portion of the assets of the trust will be gifted to All Children's upon Nancy's death.

"The nursing staff is the true heartbeat of All Children's Hospital," says Nancy. "I would like my future gift to be dedicated to some aspect of nursing." All Children's Hospital Foundation will steward Nancy's future gift to ensure that it supports the heartbeat of All Children's, our nurses and nursing program, to create healthy tomorrows for generations of children.
